6. A road runs 1,200 feet from X to Y and then makes a right angle to Z, a distance of 500

ft. A new road is being built to connect X and Z. How much shorter wilt the new road

Use the Pythagorean to find the distance XZ:


  • XZ=√(XY^2+YZ^2) =√(1200^2+500^2) =√(1690000) =1300

The difference of the distance is:
