Answer:

x = 11

Explanation:

Given;

x-(1)/(x)=3

Squaring equation;

(x-(1)/(x))^2=3^2

x^2+(1)/(x)^2-2*x*((1)/(x))=9

By algebraic identity :

(a-b)^2=a^2+b^2-2ab

Substitute

x^2+(1)/(x)^2 - 2 = 9

Add

x^2 + (1)/(x)^2 = 9 +2

Simplify

x^2 + (1)/(x)^2 = 11

Hence, x = 11.
