The graph of y = x^2 is translated 1 unit to the right. What is the equation of the new graph?

1) y = (x + 1)^2
2) y = (x - 1)^2
3) y = x^2 + 1

Answer: 2

Explanation:

If the number was OUTSIDE the exponents it represents a movement up or down

If the number is inside the parenthesis and exponent ex: (x-1)^2 then it decides a movement on the left or right

However inside the parenthesis it is reversed, so a - is move to the right and a + is moved to the left, this making your answer (x-1)^2
