A perfect square is a number such as 4,9 and 16 that is the product of an integer(whole number) multiplied by itself. For example 4 is the product of 2*2.

A number cannot be negative if an even amount of numbers are negative that are being multiplied by each other. Thus a perfect square cannot be negative. Even if you multiply two negative numbers the product is positive.
