Your cafeteria line requires 8 minutes on the average for each customer to proceed through the line and pay the cashier. The average time space between each customer is 30 seconds. If the line is open for 14 hours for lunch, how many customers can you serve for lunch?

Answer:

99 customers.

Explanation:

Ok so

14 hours = 840 minutes

Each customer requires 8 and a half minutes

8 minutes (to proceed through the line)

and

30 seconds (the interval time in between to get to another customer)

840 minutes ÷ 8.5 = 98.8..

Therefore, you can approximately serve 99 customers in 14 hours.

I didn't simply round that up, but the last customer does not need the 30 seconds of interval so therefore, you would get to serve 99 customers in 14 hours anyway.
