Two angles are supplementary. One angle is 40° more

than four times the other. Find the measures of the two
angles.

Answer:

Let x = the measure of the smaller angle

Let 3x + 40 = the measure of the larger angle

x + 3x + 40 = 180

4x = 140

x = 35º

3x + 40 = 3(35) + 40 = 145º
