The epidemic spread across Asia, eventually reaching important towns like Baghdad and Constantinople. It then traveled to Egypt's Alexandria, Syria's Damascus, then down the Red Sea to Mecca. It almost certainly penetrated the Indian Ocean trading networks from there.
