D. -1.2(3x-40)

Explanation:

Multiply -1.2 x 3x and -1.2 x -40.

-1.2 x 3x= -3.6x

-1.2 x -40= 48 (two negatives cancel each other out, so it will be +48)

= -3.6 +48.

You can also automatically eliminate B. and C. because multiplying the -4 within the perenthesis would not give you 48.

A. says (3x + 40), which would give us a negative 48.
