Electrons have electric charge of -1 and the number of electrons in an atom is equal to the number of protons.

Protons and electrons are both found in an atom...

Protons are positively charged while electrons are negatively..

Since the two have opposite charges... they cancel each other making the atom with no charge ( neutral)
