Solve by substitution;

2x +4y =8 ...(1)

`2x + 4y = 8 \\ \\ 4y = 8 - 2x \\ \\ y = (8 - 2x)/(4) \\ \\ y = 2 - (x)/(2)`

We substitute y into the second equation.

2x + 2y=2 ... (2)

`2x + 2y = 2 \\ \\ 2x + 2(2 - (x)/(2) ) = 2 \\ \\ 2x + 4 - x = 2 \\ \\ x + 4 = 2 \\ x = 2 - 4 \\ x = - 2`

And we substitute x into the equation y .

`y = 2 - (x)/(2) \\ \\ y = 2 - (( - 2))/(2) \\ \\ y = 2 + 1 \\ y = 3`

(x,y) —> (–2 , 3 )
