In any field of sunflowers, the height of the plants vary. Birds first eat the seeds from the tallest. If this eating pattern continues after season, what would happen to sunflowers over time?

Answer:

Since the shorter plants are better adapted for survival (the tall ones are eaten by the birds) this trait will be favored by natural selection.

Natural selection is when populations adapt and evolve. The best suited ones to an environment will survive and reproduce most successfully, in this case the shorter plants.
