A law firm is going to designate associates and partners to a big new case. The daily rate charged to the client for each associate is $600 and the daily rate for each partner is $1200. The law firm assigned a total of 10 lawyers to the case and was able to charge the client $7200 per day for these lawyers' services. Graphically solve a system of equations in order to determine the number of associates assigned to the case, x , x, and the number partners assigned to the case, y y.

Explanation:

Each associate costs the client $600 per day, so xx associates will cost the client 600x600x dollars per day. Each partner costs the client $1200 per day, so yy partners will cost the client 1200y1200y dollars per day. The total amount charged 600x+1200y600x+1200y equals \$7200:$7200:

600x+1200y=7200

600x+1200y=7200

Since there were a total of 10 lawyers assigned to the case (associates and partners), we know x+yx+y must equal 10.10.
