Explanation:

You can look at the points on the image and see the "directions" to get from one point to the next: you go down 2 and over 1. This is -2/1, which is -2.

You could also pick and two points and do a calculation. It can be any two points on the line and it will come out the same.

For example (-1,3) and (0,1) are two points on the line. To find slope, subtract the y's and put that on top of a fraction, then subtract x's and put that on the bottom.

3 - 1 goes on top.

-1 - 0 goes below.

3-1 / -1 - 0

2/-1

= -2
