Answer: I didn't read the story but here's what I think, Tom feels bad about cutting down the trees because they help keep humans alive by giving us oxegen. But Mr Anderson doesn't care about the trees. He never did so he told Tom to cut them down. But he didn't want to when he learned what the trees did. That's why he feels guilty.
