first multiply 8 and (x - 5)

8(x– 5) – 3x > -20 -----> (8 * x) - (8 * 5) = 8x - 40 - 3x > -20

add like terms

8x - 40 - 3x > -20 -----> 8x + -3x = 5x - 40 > -20

combine -40 and - 20

5x - 40 > -20 ----> -20 + 40 = 5x > 20

Then finally divide

5x > 20 -----> (5x/5) > (20/5) = x > 4
