2 boys and 2 girls, they all decided to take a road trip for their last spring break of high school. Neveah and Hanna couldn’t tell their parents they were going with just two boys, so they told their parents that their other friend’s mom was taking them to the beach for the weekend. The two boys, Anthony and Arnold, didn’t really need to give an explanation, so they picked up the girls at 4 a.m on a friday morning. They honestly didn’t really know where they were going, they decided to just drive until they saw something interesting. During the car ride they all were listening to ‘Part in the USA’ by Miley Cyrus. Neveah has a huge crush on Anthony and Hanna has a huge crush on Arnold, so this trip they were trying to get something out of it. Anthony was driving his car with all of them in it. He said after 5 hours he’s going to stop driving and just see where they were. After 5 hours of driving, they stopped at this hotel called ‘Valley Inn’, they were in this town called Death Valley. They all thought it was really cool, because of the town’s name, but they didn’t know what they were getting into. After they settled in the hotel, they went out and walked around. This town had one restaurant, 4 stores, and one grocery store. They all thought it was kind of odd, it was like a ghost town. But they all still walked around and ate at that restaurant.
They walked into this one place, which now wasn’t the best idea. Some man came up to them and said, “you are now entered into the contest of Death Valley.” They were all very confused because they didn’t sign up for anything. Anthony said, “well we aren’t here for nothing, let’s give it a try.” This contest wasn’t just any contest. It was a contest of who could be the last one standing. The rules were ‘no dying’. The contest was held in the valley, in the middle of a dead field. Hanna was terrified and she didn’t want to do it whatsoever. But they were automatically entered in stepping foot into the town. As they all were walking to the field with the man, he told them, “here are a couple weapons we have, a baseball bat, a hammer, a golf club, and nunchucks. You all must run and don’t get caught” They all were very confused by what he said, who was going to be coming after them? Hanna and Neveah were terrified, and crying, and the boys were trying to comfort them as much as possible. Anthony went up to Neveah and said, “I will protect you no matter what,” after that she felt like her whole world went upside down. Arnold was holding Hanna’s hand the whole time, because he knew how she felt. Anthony felt responsible for all of it because he was the one who brought them there.
They all ran, they decided to split up into two, Anthony with Neveah, and Arnold with Hanna. Anthony was able to find an abandoned tunnel and they both hid in there. Anthony looks at Neveah and can see the terror in her eyes. She kept saying over and over how they were going to die. Anthony looked at her, and kissed her. He said, “You aren’t going to die, I wouldn’t let that happen to you ever, they would need to come through me first.” Then she dug herself into his chest, she felt a lot calmer after that. Arnold was a skinny, dainty boy. He was as terrified as Hanna, they both didn’t know what to do. They went to find Neveah and Anthony. Once they did they see Anthony all beat up on the ground. He is still breathing, but Neveah is screaming and telling them to help him. They didn’t know what to do, they were in terror. Arnold stepped over to Anthony and grabbed his jacket and tied it over his broken elbow, and they all sat there crying and wishing they were home.
