First, write out the equation.

6(8 + x) = 19. x is our unknown, or our variable.

Now, simplify the equation.

6(8 + x) = 19

48+ 6x = 19

Next, isolate the variable (get the variable alone)

48 + 6x = 19

-48 -48

6x = -29.

Finally, solve (Your solution should lay along the lines of the equation directly above this, but if it wants the solution here it is.)

6x = -29

/6 /6

x = -4.8333
