Julius Caesar was a Roman general and statesman. Caesar led the Roman armies through many battles defeating his political rivals. In 60 BC, Caesar and others created the First Triumvirate, a political alliance that dominated Roman politics for several years. He wanted power, but the senate opposed. After the famous battle in the Gallic Wars, the senate ordered Caesar to step down from his military command and return to Rome. In 49 BC, Caesar started a civil war directly opposing the senate. In which Caesar won and gained near to unlimited power.
