To find the number of items in an array use multiplication. If there are 2 rows and 5 columns the number of items would be equal to 2*5. Think of having 2 groups of 5 or 5+5. If you do this you get 10 objects. Additionally, if you were to draw out the array and count the objects you would get 10. Therefore the answer 8 is unreasonable.
