Answer:

An appositive is a phrase, usually a noun phrase, that renames another phrase or noun.

Example:

Edison, the inventor of the lightbulb, is often callled the US's greatest invertor.

"Edison" is the noun

"the inventor of the lightbulb" is the appositive

"Edison, the inventor of the lightbulb" is the description

An appositive phrase is a phrase that comes after a noun and it tells us a little more information about the noun we have.

For example, "That ladybug, an insect, just landed on the rose bush" is an appositive phrase as it's giving us extra information about the ladybug.
