Tommy has 200 fliers to hand out. He hands out

a. 200 - 15x = y

b. 10 hours

for the first part, you have to think through what the problem is. So if x is the numbers of hours handing fliers and the rate is 15 fliers per hour, you multiply these together and you get 15x, which is the amount of fliers handed out for any given time, x. then y is the amount left so in order to get what is left you must subtract what you are starting with versus what you have given away. Since we know 15x is what you have given away, you subtract this from 200 and you get what is left, y.

Then using this equation, you can find out the answer to B by substituting y for 50, and when you solve, you get x= 10
