PLEASE HELP IM SO CONFUSEDDDD!!!!!!

Ayana and Leah both showed how they worked through the quadratic equation:
(x-5)^2 +4 = 16

Ayana took the square root of both sides and rewrote the equation as (x-5) + 2= 4 then solved for x.

Leah isolated the (x-5)^2 by subtracting 4 from both sides and then took the square root from both sides. After that she solved for x.

Ayana's answer was x=7
Leah's answer was x= 5 plus or minus the square root of 12.

Who was wrong and why?
