Let's consider the number we want is x

x-3/10=1/5

On both sides of the equation, if we substract (or add) a certain number, say 3/10, the equality relation still exists.

That is x-3/10+3/10=1/5+3/10

Then x=1/5+3/10

You see 1/5+3/10=2/10+3/10=1/2

So x=1/2
