A regular hexagon is divided into six congruent equilateral triangles. If the perimeter of one of the triangles is 39 inches, what is the perimeter of the regular hexagon, in inches?

Explanation:

"Regular hexagon" means the shape has 6 sides and all the sides are the SAME length.

"equilateral triangles" means the triangles all three sides are the same.

"perimeter" is distance around the outside of a shape.

So if the triangle has perimeter 39 inches. We divide to find the length of a side.

39/3

= 13.

The side of the triangle is also the side of the hexagon.

Perimeter of the hexagon is

P = 6•side

P = 6•13

P = 78
