Silicon is the most widely-used element for the production of solar-cells. The silicon must be purified before being used in the solar cells, and chlorine plays an important role here. What is NOT a limitation to using silicon for solar cells?

With all the limitations of silicon, if purified, it can be an efficient method of electricity production. Although the price has come down, they are still expensive, fragile, and very rigid. The lower cost units also have lower efficiency.
