The Southern colonies of the era had a economy based entirely on farming and agriculture. Many cash crops were planted in the region, furthering the need for labor and leading to a larger want for slaves. This would soon become an essential part of their financial climate, leaving the sentiment of freeing slaves to be scarce in the area.
