Answer:

-1 (2)/(3)

Explanation:

To answer we want to get them both into improper fractions:

3 1/3 = 3 x 3 = 9 + 1 = 10/3

\/

5 = 5/1

&

10/3 - 5/1

Now we need a common denominator:

10/3 - 5/1

\/

10/3 - 15/3

Now we can subtract:

(10 - 15)/(3) = (-5)/(3)

Now we want to turn -5/3 into a mixed number:

3 goes into 5 one time (negative doesn't matter currently) and there is 2 left over. This leaves us with 1 2/3, add on the negative and we get a final answer of
-1 (2)/(3)

Hope this helps, have a nice day :)
