Two angles are supplementary. The measure of the larger angle is 12 more than 2 times the measure of the smaller angle.
Find the measures of both angles.

Explanation:

If two angles are said to be supplementary then their sum is 180°

Let x = smaller angle

If the larger angle is 12 more than 2 times the smaller angle, then

⇒ larger angle = 2x + 12

Sum of the angles = 180°

⇒ x + 2x + 12 = 180

⇒ 3x + 12 = 180

⇒ 3x = 168

⇒ x = 56

Therefore, smaller angle = 56°

larger angle = 2(56) + 12 = 124°
