The Thirteenth Amendment outlawed slavery in the United States and the Fourteenth Amendment granted citizenship to freed slaves. What challenges did the former slave population face once they were freed.

They still weren’t treated as equals, even when the US army occupied the south, after they left it only got worse with Jim Crow laws.
