Im not sure what equation your doing but lets use 3x=15 as an example

Explanation:

3x=15

this tells us that 3 times an unknown value is 15.

So we must isolate that value by doing the opposite of multiplication which is division. So we divide 3x by 3 so can be left x

so 3x divided by 3 is x. Whatever we do to one side we do to the next (following the multiplication/division property of equality)

So 15/3 is 5.

Therefore: x = 5

We can double check this statement by saying 3 times 5 is 15 which proves that this statement is true.
