Two angles are supplementary if their sum is 180 degrees. The larger angle measures five degrees more then six times the measure of smaller angle. If x represents the measure of the smaller angle and these two angles are supplementary, find the measure of each angle

systems of equations

6x+5=y

x+y=180

x=180-y

now plug it back into the other equation (never the one you got it from)

6(180-y)+5=y

1080-6y+5=y

1080+5=y+6y

1080+5= 7y

1085= 7y

155 = y

now because we know Y+X = 180, we can just subtract

180-155 = x

25 = x
