Working together, it takes two different sized hoses 25 minutes to fill a small swimming pool. If it takes 45 minutes for the larger hose to fill the swimming pool

by itself, how long will it take the smaller hose to fill the pool on its own?

Answer:

Explanation:

1/45 + 1/x = 1/25

The common denominator is

45: 5 * 3 * 3

25:5 * 5

x: x

You need two 3s and two fives

9 * 25 * x= 225x

Multiply the equation by 225x

225x ( 1/45 + 1/x = 1/25)

25 x + 225 = 45x Subtract 25x from both sides

225 = 45x - 25x

225 = 20x Divide by 20

x = 225/20

x = 11.25
