A truck left Auckland for its destination, travelling at 80km/hr. Two hours later, a car leaves Auckland, chasing the truck at 120 km/hr. The car catches up to the truck 30km before it reaches its destination. How far is it from Auckland to the truck’s destination?

The truck travelled in 2h=80(2)=160km

The time taken for truck in 30km=30/80=0.37h=20min

The time taken by car to cross =30/120=15min

The truck travelled in 15min=1/4(80)=20km

  • Hence total distance =160km+20km=180km

The trucks destination is 180km from Auckland
