2(p+1) + 8(p-1)=5p

Expand the equation

2p + 2 + 8p - 8 =5p

Simplify the equation

10p - 6= 5p

10p -5p = 6

5p = 6

p = 6/5

$2(p + 1) + 8(p - 1) = 5p \\ 2p + 2 + 8p - 8 = 5p \\ 2 + 8p - 8 = 5p - 2p \\ 2 - 8 = 3p - 8p \\ - 6 = - 5p \\ p = ( - 5)/( - 6) = (5)/(6)$
