we can take the unknown number to be x and the other number to be y. so

three times the number ie 3x is 7 less than two times the other number.

3x = 2y-7 (this expression say three times a number(x) is 7 less than two times the other number.

add 7 on both sides for the above eqn.

3x+7 = 2y-7+7

3x+7 = 2y;

four times the second number that is 4y is 44. or you can say 4y = 44

the y is 11. or y = 11.

if you put this y value in 3x+7 = 2y you get x =5
