Suppose the student walks the following path: 20 M WEST, 25 M SOUTH, 8 M EAST, 9 M NORTH. Calculate the total distance the student traveled

Distance is al the measurements added together. So by adding 20, 25, 8, and 9. This will give us:

62 meters

If you are asking for displacement that would be using 12mW and 16mS as your A and B values on a triangle.

From there you create a triangle without the measurement of the hypotenuse you use trigonometry in order to find the total displacement.
