Since the angle we're solving for is a 90-degree angle then we can just add the two given numbers (We know it's a 90-degree angle by the little box).

(3x + 4) + 50 = 90

(3x + 4) + 50 - 50 = 90 -50

3x + 4 = 40

3x + 4 - 4 = 40 -4

3x = 36

3x/3 = 36/3

x = 12

Now that we found x we can plug it into (3x + 4) to find the angle.

3(12) + 4

36 + 4

40

The angle is 40-degrees

You could've also done it an easier way:

Since we know that both givens will be equal to 90 and one given is already a whole number (50)

Then x has to be equal to 12 since that's the only number that can be plugged into 3x + 4 to get 40.
