Answer:

Large Pizza: $1.06

Small Pizza: $1.13

Large Pizza is the better deal.

Explanation:

We need to set up two equations for each scenerio. One for the large pizza and one for the small pieces.

We know that a pizza shop sells 8 large slices and costs $8.50.

We also know that they also sell 4 small slices and costs $4.50.

But, we don't know how much each of these will cost. So, we need to add a variable by x that will equal the cost of the pizza.

Our equations:

8x = 8.50

4x = 4.50

Now solve for each equation:

Large pizza:

8x = 8.5\\8x/8 = 8.5/8\\x = 1.0625

Small pizza:

4x = 4.5\\4x/4 = 4.5/4\\x = 1.125

Now, we know how much each pizza slice cost for both small pizza and large pizzas.

A slice from a large pizza costs: $1.0625 or $1.06.

A slice from a small pizza costs: $1.125 or $1.13

It seems like the better deal is the large pizza since the cost per slice is lower than the small pizza's slice per cost.
