Answer: k = 14

Explanation:

First combine like terms: -254 = -18k - 2

Next use Addition Property of Equality (add 2 to both sides to cancel the 2 on the right side of the equation) : -252 = -18k

Last, use Division Property of Equality (divide both sides by -18 to get k by itself): 14 = k

*when solving an equation like this, you are always trying to get k by itself, and whatever you do to one side, do it to the other to keep them equal

-254 = -10k -2 -8k

or, -254+2 = -18k

or, -252 = -18k

or, k = -252/-18 = 14

Answer is 14.
