Answer:

a=19, b=4, c=22

Explanation:

The perimeter of a triangle is found by adding all 3 of the side together.

Side a + Side b + Side c = perimeter.

Use what they gave you for the 3 sides.

(2x + 5) + (x - 3) + (3x + 1) = 45 inches

Now just start simplifying the equation. You can start by adding the whole numbers 5 - 3 + 1 = 3

2x + x + 3x + 3 = 45

Now add the others.

2x + x + 3x = 6x so you have 6x + 3 = 45

Subtract 3 from both sides of the equation

6x = 42

Divide each side by 6

x = 7

So now plug the value of X into the equations your were give for all 3 sides.

Side a = (2x+5) or (2)(7) + 5 = 19

Side b = (x - 3) or (7 - 3) = 4

Side c = (3x + 1) or (3)(7) + 1 = 22

Check you answers by adding the 3 numbers. 19 + 4 + 22 = 45 inches
