1. Given f(x) = 8x + 10, how would you solve f(x) = 2?

Answer:

f(x) = 8x + 10.

1• when given f(x) = 2, equate the whole function to 2

\dashrightarrow \: { \tt{8x + 10 = 2}} \\ \\ \dashrightarrow \: { \tt{8x = 2 - 10}} \\ \\ \dashrightarrow \: { \tt{8x = - 8}} \\ \\ \hookrightarrow \: { \boxed{ \tt{ \: \: x = - 1 \: \: }}}

2• when given f(2), substitute x as 2:

\dashrightarrow \: { \tt{f(2) = 8(2) + 10}} \\ \\ \dashrightarrow \: { \tt{f(2) = 16 + 10}} \\ \\ \hookrightarrow \: { \boxed{ \tt{ \: \: f(2) = 26 \: \: }}}
