Solve each pair of simultaneous equations by elimination method. 6x + 7y = 5 7x + 8y = 6​

Explanation:

6x + 7y = 5 → (1)

7x + 8y = 6 → (2)

Multiplying (1) by 7 and (2) by - 6 and adding will eliminate the x- term

42x + 49y = 35 → (3)

- 42x - 48y = - 36 → (4)

Add (3) and (4) term by term to eliminate x

y = - 1

Substitute y = - 1 into either of the 2 equations and solve for x

Substituting into (1)

6x + 7(- 1) = 5

6x - 7 = 5 ( add 7 to both sides )

6x = 12 ( divide both sides by 6 )

x = 2

solution is (2, - 1 )
