Question↷

Mr. Kelly knows that one side of his house is 20 feet long and it takes him six strides to walk the same distance. How long

is the other side of his house if it takes him 8.5 strides to walk it?

Answer↷

28.33 ft

Solution ↷

  • Distance that can be covered in 6 strides = 20 ft
  • Distance that can be covered in 1 stride = 20/6ft = 3.33 ft
  • Distance that can be covered in 8.5 strides = 3.33ft x 8.5 =28.33 ft
  • Hence , Mr Kelly's house other side measures 28.33 ft

Let that be x

Ratio remains same

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail (6)/(20)=(8.5)/(x)

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail 6x=20(8.5)

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail 6x=170

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail x=170/6

\\ \rm\rightarrowtail x=28.3ft
