The range is the set of all possible y outputs of a function.

The lowest y can get is y = 1. There is no largest y value as it goes on forever upward. Therefore, we can say the set of y values can be described by the compound inequality
1 \le y < \infty which condenses into the interval notation
[1, \infty)

We use a square bracket to include the endpoint 1. Parenthesis always goes with infinity because we can't ever reach infinity.
