On February 20, 1984, the United States Supreme Court affirmed a decision by the United States Circuit Court of Appeals that a dozen acres purchased by the Port of Tacoma in 1950 belonged to the Puyallup. President George H.W. Bush signed a law that resolved tribal disputes in Puyallup.
