Change the mixed number 2 1/4 into a proper fraction

2 x 4 + 1 = 9
9/4

Do the same for 1 1/5

1 x 5 + 1 = 6
6/5

Find a common denominator

9/4 x 5 = 45/20
6/5 x 4 = 24/20

Subtract

45/20 - 24/20 = 21/20

21/20 is your final answer
or 1 1/20
