here the first Term that is in use is Alkali .

simply water soluble bases are called alkali.

and element in group two are alkaline earth metal .

:the reason is

whenever they release oxide that oxides remain in the crust of the earth and are very heat-stable( can bear a lot of heat). so it can be called as alkalin earth metal.
