The sum of two numbers is 36. one number is 3 times as large as the other. what are the numbers

Answer: 9 and 27
Explanation: x+3x=36
Combine like terms
4x=36
Divide by 4
X=9, which would be one of the numbers.

So if x = 9 we would do 3(9) which would equal 27

So the answer would be 9 and 27
