A box filled with books weighs 11 1/2 kilograms. Assume 1 kilogram = 2.20 pounds. What is the best estimate of the weight of the box in pounds? O 20 pounds O 25 pounds O 30 pounds O I don't know​

Answer:

25 pounds.

Explanation:

1 kg = 2.2 pounds

11.5 kg = x pounds Cross Multiply

1 * x = 11.5 * 2.2

Since you are estimating the question, you don't use a calculator. So 11.5 * 2

23 pounds. 11.5 * 0.2 = 2.3 pounds

Total = 23 + 2.3 = 25.3

So the total is more than 25 but way less than 30

You can make the question a bit more formal by noticing what I did was related to the distributive property.

11.5 ( 2 + 0.2) Remove the brackets.

11.5 * 2 + 0.2*11.5 Which gives you exactly the same thing as above.
