Literature in the gilded age was vast. The time period was shaped by the works of authors such as William Dean Howells and Henry James in their books many found a sense of peace whilst reading their works. Some of James' more popular works include acclaimed books still being read by millions today such as "The American" and "The Turn of the Screw". Movies have been made based around the many book of the gilded age including the highly regarded 2012 film "What Maisie Knew".
